In mid 2018 Strategic Spaces were engaged by Dexus to design a wayfinding system for the expansive entranceway and commercial lobby redevelopment at 309 – 321 Kent St, Sydney.
The contemporary two tower complex, overlooking Sydney’s Darling Harbour, provides 36 levels of highly desirable grade-A office accommodation with amenities that have a strong emphasis on wellbeing, and a retail plaza that offers chance meetings alongside dining and leisure.
The redevelopment involved significant realignment of the 309 Kent Street facade, refurbishment of the existing plaza and a finishes upgrade across both lobbies. The first stage was delivered in 2019, with further work on 321 Kent Street following on in 2021.
Our design took inspiration from the faceted architecture of the new foyer at 309 Kent Street, with characteristics and a material palette that morphed across buildings to harmonise with the heritage charm of 321 Kent Street.
Our strategy included a review of the existing conditions, to unearth site wayfinding deficiencies and the unique requirements of each tower, which we then responded to with our design.
The wayfinding concept introduced a unified design language across the two buildings incorporating an elegant application of typography directly to the building canvas, and light, folded elements with bevelled forms and letters, to embellish the architecture and respond to site character.
