With the user front of mind, our role was to review the existing wayfinding system and to provide recommendations to improve the customer experience, which then led to the design of a site wide wayfinding system.
Macarthur Square is a leading retail destination located in Campbelltown, approximately 53 km south-west of the Sydney CBD. As southwest Sydney’s largest shopping destination, the site provides an extensive dining, lifestyle and entertainment offer for its 12 million annual customers, including over 300 stores including David Jones, Harris Scarfe, Target, Big W, Coles, Woolworths and ALDI.
Our design incorporated a bold colour strategy, introducing vibrant and describable colours and intuitive directional graphics, to aid navigation throughout the space.
Upon completion of our initial review it became clear that there was a requirement for a simple, consistent and cohesive car park wayfinding system, coupled with the amplification of site arrival signage, the development of the retail wayfinding content, and the articulation of pedestrian access points, to improve the customer experience.
By removing visual noise and developing the wayfinding information design to conform with a myriad of wayfinding guiding principles, the new system delivers highly legible directional graphics, combined with murals and other intuitive wayfinding cues, optimising the user journey.
