Watergardens Town Square is a sub-regional shopping centre located in Taylors Lakes, 26km north-west of Melbourne’s CBD.

Suspended
Context

Following the departure of the Coles supermarket, the property has been transformed to expand and enhance its food retail and catering offerings. The Marketplace is a public space designed to reflect the community, offering culturally diverse events and blending traditional artisanal fresh food with a vibrant community atmosphere.

We were engaged in 2018 to develop a wayfinding system for this precinct and later to roll out the suspended signage across the site. Following this, we were tasked with developing a signage suite for the Station Street dining precinct.

Solution

The design of the space was inspired by local markets, with filtered light and lush greenery, evoking the feel of a greenhouse. Our wayfinding concept, inspired by mid-century modern design, features bold graphic elements intertwined with greening, to naturally complement the architecture.

Within the Station Street dining precinct, Mesh panels and black detailing extended the language of the trellis structures to serves as wayfinding elements for the precinct. These concepts expanded upon our previous designs for the site, featuring updates to the materiality and palette to ensure cohesion with the landscaping.
